Aims and objectives of Newspapers In Education

Learning Through Newspapers

For Schools :

  • Introduce local and national newspapers to children, teachers and parents as a fun and easily accessible learning experience.
  • Enhance the national curriculum and support reading and literacy programmes, in addition help with G.C.S.E., A Level, N.V.Q. assignments and generally provide hands on experience of the world of newspapers and media.
  • Provide in service and teacher development opportunities.
  • Help to deliver basic core skills in literacy, I.C.T, Numeracy, business links, Gifted & Talented, Education Action Zones and other cross curricular subject areas.
  • Workshops for custom built programmes i.e. media studies, citizenship, teacher placements, newspapers and the internet, curricular projects, newspapers days, students projects and career guidance.
  • Activities for schools book and art weeks plus many other flexible projects.

Cost : Day sessions from £200, half day from £110 and twilight from £50. plus travelling

For local Education Business Partnerships, Education Action Zones and LEA's

  • Provides teacher placements
  • Increases industrial/education awareness
  • Brings newspapers and schools together for focused projects and programmes
  • Increased PR into the community about E.B.P. activity N.I.E.

Learning Through Newspapers activities

  • Gifted & Talented Programmes: Sessions that support Gifted & Talented children projects.
  • Reading Passports: Available for students aged 6-12 in five versions both at school or home
  • Summer School: A variety of challenges and fun activites for the Summer School programme
  • Newspaper Days and writing workshops: Activities involving a whole range of projects based within the school
  • Newspapers and the internet: Demonstrations of the electronic newspaper and access to other internet media information.
  • Classroom visits: Short talks, activities and lots of ideas for newspaper classroom projects, book weeks, literacy, reading assignments, arts weeks and summer schools.
