Volunteer Reading Help

Volunteer Reading Help is a national charity that recruits and trains people from the local community to help those children in primary schools who find reading
difficult.

Volunteer Reading Help began in 1973 with 7 volunteers in 2 London schools. It has grown steadily over the years we now have 46 branches across the country.

What are the benefits?
Regular surveys show that 75% of children being helped by our volunteers make significant or outstanding improvement in confidence and 66% make the same improvement in reading.

What are volunteers do

help children aged 6-11 twice a week
work with one child at a time
help the same 3 children for a year
work in a quiet place outside the classroom
talk, read and play games with the children
